Virtual Production Website
Project Type: Web Design & Development
Role: Project Manager
Timeline: January - May 2022
Tools: Figma, Cinema 4D, Webflow
Overview: A 5-month contract with the Rochester Institute of Technology to design and develop a website portfolio featuring the latest in virtual production technologies and projects at RIT. Designed for desktop and mobile.
Introduction
Virtual production is the current revolution in film and media production, representing the deployment of extensive computer-generated graphics, 3D art, motion capture, in-camera visual effects, and real-time rendering via game engines.
Structure the site in a way that encourages skimming and categorizes content effectively, leading to the curriculum page.
Utilize a 3D background to subtly create user interaction and grant structure to the hierarchy of the site
Find a way to create a distinctly modern style while still clearly falling under RIT's branding and style guide.
Moodboard
Inspired by award-winning websites that seek to showcase projects while explaining new ideas. Linear-categorized sections as well as 3D interactive elements were heavily present in most projects.
Styleguide
Created in combination with RIT's existing style guide, I generated a new iteration for use on the site. Staying true to RIT's original fonts and colors while enhancing the design for the site with bolder text sizing.
Design Mockups
Designed for web and mobile, the final site features every section requested by MAGIC, as well as an interactive 3D background to keep the user engaged through their scrolling as well as invoke the practices of virtual production.
Conclusion
Designing and developing the site alone certainly proved to be a challenge, but having the opportunity to coordinate across students and professors to gather content for the site, as well as creating a published site, certainly proved to be a valuable experience.
